Biography
Janet Mock is an American writer, director and producer. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, she began her career as a journalist and author of the memoirs Redefining Realness (2014) and Surpassing Certainty (2017).
She joined the writers’ room for the FX series POSE (2018–2021) and became the first transgender woman of colour hired as a writer for a television series. She also directed episodes of the show, including “Love Is the Message”. Mock later directed and wrote episodes of Hollywood (2020) and served as executive producer and writer on DAHMER – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (2022). She has acted in series including Devs (2020). In 2019 she signed an overall deal with Netflix, the first for an openly transgender woman of colour.
