Biography

Janet Patterson (12 August 1956 – 21 October 2016) was an Australian costume designer and production designer. She studied at East Sydney Technical College and Sydney College of the Arts.

She is best known for her work with directors Jane Campion and Gillian Armstrong. Her credits include The Piano (1993), The Portrait of a Lady (1996), Oscar and Lucinda (1997), Holy Smoke (1999), Bright Star (2009), Peter Pan (2003) and Far from the Madding Crowd (2015). She won a BAFTA Award for Best Costume Design for The Piano and received four Academy Award nominations for costume design.
