Biography
Jean-Louis Richard (1927–2012) was a French actor, screenwriter and director. He trained at the Conservatoire d'art dramatique de Paris and began his career as an actor in Louis Jouvet's theatre company.
He appeared in several New Wave films, including uncredited roles in Jean-Luc Godard's Breathless (1960) and François Truffaut's Jules and Jim (1962). Richard became a frequent collaborator with Truffaut, co-writing The Soft Skin (1964), Fahrenheit 451 (1966), The Bride Wore Black (1968) and Day for Night (1973). He played the collaborationist critic Daxiat in Truffaut's The Last Metro (1980).
Richard also directed films such as Mata Hari, agent H 21 (1964) and wrote the screenplay for Emmanuelle (1974). He was the first husband of actress Jeanne Moreau.
