Biography
Jean Yoon (born 4 May 1962) is an American-born Canadian actress and playwright of Korean descent. She was raised in Toronto and holds a BA from the University of Toronto.
Yoon began her career in Toronto theatre in the early 1980s and later worked as a cultural equity advocate and new-play producer. She originated the role of Umma (Kim Yong-mi) in the 2011 play Kim's Convenience and reprised it in the CBC television series (2016–2021), for which she won an ACTRA Award and received multiple Canadian Screen Award nominations.
Her other screen credits include Captain Theresa Yao in The Expanse (2015), Janis Beckwith in Orphan Black (2013), Dr. Montague in The Time Traveler's Wife (2009), Dr. Sato in The Voyeurs (2021) and Mina in Code 8: Part II (2024). She is also credited as Dr. Madeline Richard in the film Tuner (2026).
