Biography
Jeanette Nolan was an American actress whose career spanned stage, radio, film and television from the 1930s until the 1990s. She began acting at the Pasadena Playhouse and made her radio debut in 1932 while a student at Los Angeles City College.
Her film roles included Lady Macbeth in Orson Welles’s Macbeth (1948) and Bertha Duncan in Fritz Lang’s The Big Heat (1953). She appeared as Nora Ericson in John Ford’s The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) and provided the voice of Norma Bates in Psycho (1960). Nolan received four Emmy nominations and had recurring roles in the series The Virginian (1962–1971) and Dirty Sally (1974).
In 1935 she married actor John McIntire; they remained together until his death in 1991 and had two children, both actors.
