Biography
Jerry Wald (1911–1962) was an American screenwriter and film producer. Born Jerome Irving Wald in Brooklyn, New York, he began his career as a radio columnist before moving to Hollywood, where he wrote scripts for Warner Bros. and was promoted to producer in the early 1940s.
At Warner Bros. he produced a series of successful films across genres, including Mildred Pierce (1945), Key Largo (1948), Johnny Belinda (1948) and Dark Passage (1947). He received the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in 1949 and four Academy Award nominations for Best Picture. Later he formed independent production companies, working at RKO, Columbia and 20th Century Fox on titles such as An Affair to Remember (1957), Peyton Place (1957) and The Long, Hot Summer (1958).
