Biography
Jesse Hibbs was an American film and television director. Born in Normal, Illinois, he attended the University of Southern California, where he played football as an All-American tackle and captained the 1928 national championship team. He had a brief professional career with the Chicago Bears before entering the film industry as an assistant director in the 1930s and 1940s.
Hibbs made his directorial debut with the 1953 football drama The All American. He directed nine feature films in the 1950s, many of them westerns for Universal-International, including several with Audie Murphy such as To Hell and Back (1955). From the late 1950s he worked primarily in television, directing episodes of series including Perry Mason, Gunsmoke, Rawhide, The F.B.I. and The Fugitive.
