Biography
Jim Thompson was an American novelist and screenwriter. Born James Myers Thompson on 27 September 1906 in Anadarko, Oklahoma Territory, he wrote more than thirty novels, most of them original paperbacks published from the late 1940s to the mid-1950s.
His best-known works include the crime novels The Killer Inside Me (1952), The Getaway (1959) and The Grifters (1963). Thompson received a dialogue credit on Stanley Kubrick’s The Killing (1956) and a joint screenplay credit on Paths of Glory (1957). He was blacklisted in the early 1950s for his leftist politics.
Thompson died in Los Angeles on 7 April 1977. Many of his novels were adapted for film after his death, including The Grifters (1990).
