Biography
John Bloom, born John Irving Bloom, is an American actor, writer and film critic who performs under the stage name Joe Bob Briggs. He was born on 27 January 1953 in Dallas, Texas, and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas. He attended Vanderbilt University on a sports-writing scholarship.
Bloom began his career as a journalist, writing for the Dallas Times Herald and Texas Monthly. He created the Joe Bob Briggs persona in the 1980s and hosted the television series Joe Bob's Drive-In Theater on The Movie Channel from 1986 to 1996 and MonsterVision on TNT from 1996 to 2000. He has hosted The Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs on Shudder since 2018. As an actor he is credited as John Bloom in Martin Scorsese's Casino (1995) as Don Ward, and has appeared in films including Face/Off (1997).
