Biography
John Brabourne (1924–2005) was a British film and television producer. He began working in the industry in the late 1940s as an assistant production manager and became a producer in 1958. His early credits include Sink the Bismarck! (1960).
Brabourne produced Franco Zeffirelli’s Romeo and Juliet (1968) with Anthony Havelock-Allan. He later produced several Agatha Christie adaptations, including Murder on the Orient Express (1974), Death on the Nile (1978), The Mirror Crack’d (1980) and Evil Under the Sun (1982), as well as David Lean’s A Passage to India (1984). He received Academy Award nominations for Best Picture for Romeo and Juliet and A Passage to India.
He founded Mersham Productions in 1970 and served as a director of Thames Television and Euston Films. Brabourne was appointed CBE for services to the film industry and was a governor of the British Film Institute.
