Biography
John de Borman is a French-born British cinematographer. Born in Paris on 14 December 1954, he studied sculpture at Chelsea School of Art before working in video production and shooting his first feature as director of photography in 1991.
He is known for his work on films including The Full Monty (1997), Serendipity (2001), Ella Enchanted (2004), An Education (2009) and If I Stay (2014). De Borman has collaborated repeatedly with directors such as Gillies MacKinnon, Peter Chelsom and Nigel Cole. He served as president of the British Society of Cinematographers from 2010 to 2014 and received the Royal Photographic Society’s Lumière Award in 2013 for his contribution to British cinema. He also won the World Cinema Cinematography Award at Sundance for An Education.
