Biography
John McMartin was an American actor of stage, film and television. Born in Warsaw, Indiana, he made his off-Broadway debut in 1959 in Little Mary Sunshine and went on to a long Broadway career spanning more than fifty years. He originated the role of Oscar in the musical Sweet Charity in 1966, for which he received a Tony Award nomination, and reprised the part in the 1969 film adaptation.
On screen, McMartin appeared in films including All the President's Men (1976) as the Foreign Editor, Blow Out (1981) and Kinsey (2004). His television credits include roles in series such as Frasier, Oz, Law & Order, Cheers and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. He died in New York City in 2016.
