Biography
John Seitz (1937–2005) was an American actor whose career spanned film, television and a substantial body of stage work. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, he appeared in more than 300 plays over four decades, with Broadway credits including revivals of Sherlock Holmes (1976), Frankenstein (1981) and Harold Pinter’s No Man’s Land (1994).
On screen he played Benny in the Coen brothers’ The Hudsucker Proxy (1994), alongside roles in The Prowler (1981), Presumed Innocent (1990), JFK (1991), G.I. Jane (1997) and episodes of Law & Order and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Seitz received Obie Awards for Abingdon Square (1988) and Talk (2001), and was recognised for his support of non-profit theatre and new playwrights.
