Biography

John Wengraf (23 April 1897 – 4 May 1974) was an Austrian actor. Born in Vienna, he trained at the Academy for Music and Dramatic Art there and began his career on the stage in 1919, later working in Berlin and other German cities as well as at the Burgtheater in Vienna, where he also directed.

He emigrated to Britain in the 1930s and appeared in a few films and early BBC television productions before moving to the United States in 1941. He settled in Los Angeles the following year and worked steadily in Hollywood films and on television until the mid-1960s. His credits include the role of Joseph, Gray and Isabel's butler, in The Razor's Edge (1946), as well as appearances in Sahara (1943), 5 Fingers (1952), Judgment at Nuremberg (1961) and the television series The Time Tunnel (1966).
