Biography

Johnny Breedt is a South African production designer and art director. He began working in the industry in the 1990s and received an early credit as production designer on the film Paljas (1997).

He took over as production designer on Hotel Rwanda (2004) after the original designer departed. Breedt has since worked on numerous international productions, including The Breed (2006), Catch a Fire (2006), The Last House on the Left (2009), Death Race 2 (2010), Chronicle (2012, supervising art director), Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013), Eye in the Sky (2015), Replicas (2018), Sergio (2020) and Redeeming Love (2022). He also wrote, directed and produced the film Die Ontwaking (2015).

Breedt won a SAFTA award for his work on Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and shared a Peabody award for the television series The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency.
