Biography

Johnny Shannon (29 July 1932 – 17 March 2017) was an English actor. He is best known for his role as the gangster Harry Flowers in the 1970 film Performance.

Shannon took up acting in his late thirties after working on market stalls and as a night driver, having previously been an amateur boxer. He assisted James Fox with preparation for Performance through sparring sessions and accent coaching, which led to his casting in the film.

Over a career spanning 1970 to 2005 he appeared in numerous films and television productions, often as policemen or villains. Other credits include Mr Firkin in Fawlty Towers (1975), a role in The Professionals (1977), Peter Rachman in Scandal (1989), Saltzman in Absolute Beginners (1986) and the landlord in Stoned (2005).
