Biography

Jonathan Pontell is a television director, producer and editor. A native of New York City, he attended the School of Visual Arts to study film and television. After graduating he worked as a film editor on features including The Exorcist and on long-form documentaries for CBS News and public television.

In 1981 he moved to Los Angeles, where he edited episodic television series including Moonlighting. He began a long association with David E. Kelley while working on L.A. Law. Pontell served as director and producer on Picket Fences and The Practice, directed episodes of Ally McBeal, and produced and directed for Kelley on Boston Public. He later worked as director and executive producer on What About Brian and as executive producer and director on Bones and Nashville.

Pontell has received four Emmy Awards, two Golden Globes and two George Foster Peabody Awards.
