Biography

Jonathan Raymond, usually credited as Jon Raymond, is an American writer and screenwriter based in Portland, Oregon. Born in San Francisco in 1971, he grew up in Oregon, attended Lake Oswego High School, and holds a BA from Swarthmore College and an MFA from The New School.

He is best known for his novels, including The Half-Life (2004) and Rain Dragon (2012), and for his long collaboration with director Kelly Reichardt. Their joint screenplays include Old Joy (2006), Wendy and Lucy (2008), Meek's Cutoff (2011), Night Moves (2014), First Cow (2020) and Showing Up (2023). He received a Primetime Emmy nomination for his teleplay work on the HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce (2011).
