Biography
Joyce Van Patten is an American actress known for her work in stage, film and television. Born on 9 March 1934 in New York City, she began performing as a child, appearing on Broadway at the age of six and later becoming a co-founder of Theatre West at UCLA.
She has appeared in numerous films including The Falcon and the Snowman (1985) as Mrs. Boyce, St. Elmo's Fire (1985), Marley & Me (2008) and Grown Ups (2010). Her television credits include recurring or guest roles in The Sopranos, Desperate Housewives, The Good Wife and earlier series such as Columbo and The Twilight Zone. She is the sister of actor Dick Van Patten and the mother of actress Talia Balsam.
