Biography
Karen Murphy is an American film producer. She began her career in documentaries for public television and made her feature debut as producer on the 1984 mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap.
Murphy has frequently collaborated with writer-director Christopher Guest. She produced or co-produced his films Waiting for Guffman (1997), Best in Show (2000), A Mighty Wind (2003), For Your Consideration (2006) and Mascots (2016), as well as other independent features including Drugstore Cowboy (1989), The Cutting Edge (1992) and Twenty Bucks (1993). She received Independent Spirit Award nominations for Drugstore Cowboy and Waiting for Guffman.
Her later credits include executive producer roles on television projects such as Family Tree (2013).
