Biography
Kary Antholis is an American television executive, producer and documentary filmmaker. Born in 1962 in Washington, District of Columbia, he graduated from Bowdoin College in 1984, earned a master's degree in history from Stanford University and a JD from Georgetown University Law Center in 1989.
He began his career as a documentary filmmaker, winning the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject for One Survivor Remembers (1995). Antholis spent over 25 years at HBO, rising to President of Miniseries and Cinemax Programming, where he oversaw numerous award-winning projects. In 2019 he founded Crime Story Media, LLC.
Antholis has served as executive producer on the limited series Black Bird (2022) and We Own This City (2022), and as executive producer and writer on the series Smoke (2025). He also hosted the podcast series Firebug.
