Biography
Katharine Alexander (also credited as Katherine Alexander) was an American actress of stage and screen. She appeared in 44 films between 1930 and 1951, including The Barretts of Wimpole Street (1934) as Arabel Barrett, Death Takes a Holiday (1934), Stage Door (1937), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939), In Name Only (1939), Dance, Girl, Dance (1940) and Now, Voyager (1942).
She was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and died in Tryon, North Carolina, on 10 January 1981. Alexander trained as a violinist before entering the theatre; she made her Broadway debut in 1924 and became a leading lady on stage. Her film career began in the early 1930s. She was married to William A. Brady Jr from 1926 until his death in 1935; they had one daughter, Barbara. In 1949 she played Linda Loman opposite Paul Muni in the London production of Death of a Salesman at the Phoenix Theatre.
