Biography
Kazuo Yamada (1919–2006) was a Japanese cinematographer. Born in Tokyo, he joined Toho Studios in 1944 as a camera assistant and trained under cinematographers Mitsuo Miura and Tomoichi Nakai. He later worked with Mifune Productions after Toshiro Mifune established the company.
Yamada served as director of photography on numerous films, including Ebirah, Horror of the Deep (1966) and Son of Godzilla (1967). Other credits include Stray Dog (1949, assistant camera), Samurai III: Duel at Ganryu Island (1956), The Rickshaw Man (1958), Chûshingura (1962), Samurai Rebellion (1967) and What's Up, Tiger Lily? (1966). He received the Japan Movie Technology Award for cinematography in 1959.
