Biography
Larry McMurtry (1936–2021) was an American novelist, essayist and screenwriter. His novels include Horseman, Pass By (1961), The Last Picture Show (1966) and Terms of Endearment (1975), all of which were adapted into films. He received the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for Lonesome Dove (1985), which was adapted into a television miniseries in 1989.
With his longtime writing partner Diana Ossana, McMurtry wrote the screenplay for Brokeback Mountain (2005), adapted from a short story by Annie Proulx. The film earned eight Academy Award nominations, including the award for Best Adapted Screenplay, which McMurtry and Ossana won. He also worked as an antiquarian bookseller.
