Biography
Lawrence Weingarten (30 December 1897 – 5 February 1975) was an American film producer. Born in Chicago, he began his career in publicity before joining Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1927 as an associate producer. He worked under Irving Thalberg and later served as co-head of the studio's editorial board, producing around 75 films over nearly four decades.
His credits include The Broadway Melody (1929), Spite Marriage (1929), A Day at the Races (1937), Libeled Lady (1936), Adam's Rib (1949), Pat and Mike (1952), The Tender Trap (1955), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) and The Unsinkable Molly Brown (1964). He received the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in 1974, presented by Katharine Hepburn.
Weingarten was married to Sylvia Thalberg from 1928 until their divorce and to Jessie Marmorston from 1945 until his death from leukaemia in Los Angeles.
