Biography
Lesley Walker (27 July 1945 – 2 December 2025) was a British film and television editor. She began her career in the 1960s as a runner, negative cutter and receptionist at a film laboratory, later working as an assistant editor to John Bloom and Tom Priestley before receiving her first editing credit on A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man (1977).
Walker edited more than thirty feature films. She developed a distinctive fast editing style in the 1980s on films including A Letter to Brezhnev (1985), Mona Lisa (1986), Cry Freedom (1987) and Shirley Valentine (1989). She maintained long collaborations with directors Richard Attenborough, on Shadowlands (1993) among others, and Terry Gilliam, on The Fisher King (1991), Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998), Tideland (2005) and The Brothers Grimm (2005). Her work earned BAFTA nominations for best editing on Mona Lisa and Cry Freedom, as well as further nominations for Tideland and Mamma Mia! (2008).
