Biography

Lia Williams is an English actress and director. Born on 26 November 1964 in Birkenhead, Merseyside, she trained at the London Studio Centre and began her career in 1984 as an understudy in the West End production of Daisy Pulls It Off.

She is a three-time Laurence Olivier Award nominee for her stage work. On screen, she is known for roles including Wallis, Duchess of Windsor in The Crown (2016–2022), Nadia Herz in The Missing (2016), DSU Gemma Garland in The Capture (2019–2026), Dr Cooper in His Dark Materials (2019–2022) and Isabel Kirby in The Day of the Jackal (2024). She received a BAFTA nomination for her leading performance in the BBC drama May 33rd (2004). She has also directed for stage and screen.
