Biography
Lizzy Gardiner is an Australian costume designer. Born in Dubbo, New South Wales, she studied fashion and costume design at the Accademia Italiana in Florence before returning to Australia to work in film and television. She began collaborating with Tim Chappel while working on the soap opera E Street.
Gardiner and Chappel designed the costumes for the 1994 film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Their work won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design in 1995, as well as BAFTA and Australian Film Institute awards. Gardiner wore a dress made of 254 American Express gold cards to the Oscars ceremony. She has since worked on films including Mission: Impossible II (2000), Hacksaw Ridge (2016) and Peter Rabbit (2018).
Gardiner and Chappel also designed costumes for the stage musical adaptation of Priscilla Queen of the Desert, winning a Tony Award for Best Costume Design of a Musical in 2011.
