Biography
Llewellyn Rees (born Walter Llewellyn Rees) was an English actor. Born in Charmouth, Dorset, on 18 June 1901, he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and made his professional stage debut in the early 1930s. He died in Barnes, London, on 7 January 1994.
Rees combined acting with significant administrative roles in the theatre, including General Secretary of the Actors' Equity Association (1940–46), Drama Director of the Arts Council of Great Britain (1947–49) and Administrator of the Old Vic (1949–51). He toured with Donald Wolfit in the 1940s and 1950s. His later screen credits included Horace Brown in The Dresser (1983), the Tea Shop Proprietor in Withnail & I (1987), Sir John in A Fish Called Wanda (1988) and the Old Major in Splitting Heirs (1993). Television appearances encompassed Doctor Who (1976) and Jeeves and Wooster (1990). He was married to actress Madeleine Newbury from 1961.
