Biography
Lorraine Toussaint is a Trinidadian actress. She was born on 4 April 1960 in Trinidad and Tobago and moved to Brooklyn, New York, as a child. She trained at the High School of Performing Arts and graduated from the Juilliard School with a BFA in drama.
Toussaint began her career in theatre before moving into screen roles. She has appeared in films including Breaking In (1989), Hudson Hawk (1991), Dangerous Minds (1995), Selma (2014) and Nimona (2023), in which she voiced Queen Valerin. On television she is known for her lead role in Any Day Now (1998–2002) and her performance in Orange Is the New Black (2013–2014). She has also starred in The Equalizer (2021–).
She has received a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Critics' Choice Television Award.
