Biography
Lynda La Plante, also credited as Lynda Marchal, is an English writer, screenwriter and former actress. She trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and appeared in stage productions with the Royal Shakespeare Company and National Theatre, as well as television series, before turning to writing.
Her breakthrough came with the 1983 television series Widows. She created and wrote the police procedural Prime Suspect (1991), starring Helen Mirren, which ran for several series and received multiple awards including Emmys and a BAFTA. She has written numerous novels, including adaptations and prequels connected to her television work, and received a CBE in 2008 for services to literature, drama and charity.
