Biography
Macdonald Carey was an American actor. He began his career in radio and on Broadway before moving to film in the early 1940s, appearing in numerous B-movies and earning the nickname 'King of the Bs'. He played the role of Jack Graham in Alfred Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt (1943).
From 1965 until his death, Carey portrayed Dr Tom Horton, the patriarch of the Horton family, on the NBC soap opera Days of Our Lives. He also provided the show's well-known voice-over narration. He received two Emmy Awards for the role in 1974 and 1975.
Carey served in the United States Marine Corps during the Second World War. He later published poetry and an autobiography, The Days of My Life (1991).
