Biography

Malcolm Bradbury was an English novelist, critic, academic and television writer. Born in Sheffield, he studied at the University of Leicester, Queen Mary College London and the University of Manchester. He taught at several universities and co-founded the creative writing programme at the University of East Anglia.

His best-known novel, The History Man (1975), was adapted for television in 1981. He wrote the screenplay for the 1987 series Porterhouse Blue and contributed episodes and screenplays to series including Play for Today, A Touch of Frost (from 1992), Inspector Morse, Dalziel and Pascoe and the 1995 adaptation of Cold Comfort Farm. He was appointed CBE in 1991 and knighted in 2000 for services to literature.
