Biography
Alan Dossor was a British theatre and television director. Born in Kingston upon Hull, he trained at Bristol University and the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School before beginning his career in regional theatre, including as assistant director at Nottingham Playhouse.
From 1970 to 1975 he served as artistic director of Liverpool’s Everyman Theatre, where he produced new plays by writers including Alan Bleasdale, John McGrath and Willy Russell, and worked with actors such as Julie Walters, Pete Postlethwaite, Alison Steadman and Antony Sher. After leaving the Everyman he directed in the West End and at other theatres including the Royal Court and West Yorkshire Playhouse.
From 1977 he directed television drama, including episodes of Bergerac (1981), Play for Today (from 1970), Between the Lines (1992) and A Touch of Frost (1992). He also directed and produced the television film First and Last (1989).
