Biography
Ben Bolt (1952–2025) was a British television director. He was the son of playwright Robert Bolt and trained at the National Film School.
His early credits included episodes of Van der Valk (1977) and The Sweeney (1978). He later directed episodes of American series including Hill Street Blues and L.A. Law. In the UK he worked on Bergerac, Silent Witness (1996), Ashes to Ashes (2009) and Inspector George Gently (2014).
Bolt directed 32 episodes of Doc Martin (2004–2011) and two episodes of the first series of Downton Abbey (2010). His later work included episodes of Vikings (2017) and Outlander (2018).
