Biography
Robert Banks Stewart (16 July 1931 – 14 January 2016) was a Scottish screenwriter, television producer and former journalist. He began his career in journalism in Edinburgh before moving into television writing in the late 1950s, sometimes credited early on as Robert Stewart.
He contributed scripts to series including Danger Man, The Avengers (1965–66) and Doctor Who (1963), for which he wrote Terror of the Zygons (1975) and The Seeds of Doom (1976) and created the Zygons. He also wrote for The Saint (1962). Stewart created and produced the BBC detective series Shoestring (1979) and Bergerac (1981), and produced the first series of Lovejoy (1986) and early episodes of The Darling Buds of May (1991).
