Biography
Richard Harris is a British screenwriter and playwright. Born on 26 March 1934 in London, he began writing freelance episodes for British television in the early 1960s and remained active until the mid-1990s. He contributed scripts primarily to crime and detective series, including episodes of The Avengers (1961), Public Eye (1965) and The Sweeney (1975).
Harris helped create or co-create several programmes in the genre, such as Man in a Suitcase (1967), Adam Adamant Lives! (1966) and Shoestring (1979). He wrote the first series of A Touch of Frost (1992) and episodes of The Last Detective (2003). His stage plays include Outside Edge, which he adapted for television and for which he received the Writers' Guild of Great Britain award for best situation comedy in 1994, and Stepping Out (1991).
