Biography
Marcel Sławiński is a Polish production designer and scenographer who works in film, theatre and television. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice and studied scenography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. He runs the Scenography Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice with Katarzyna Sobańska and heads the Chair of Film and Television Production Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.
Sławiński frequently collaborates with Sobańska. Their credits include production design on Paweł Pawlikowski’s Ida (2013) and Cold War (2018), Lech Majewski’s The Mill and the Cross (2011), Agnieszka Holland’s In Darkness (2011), Tomasz Wasilewski’s United States of Love (2016), Jan Komasa’s The Hater (2020) and Filip (2023). They are also the production designers on Pawlikowski’s Fatherland (2026).
Together with Sobańska he has received multiple awards for production design, including Polish Film Awards (Eagles) and awards at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia. Their theatre work includes a Gold Mask award in 2010 for the musical Oliver!.
