Biography
Marie Jones is a Northern Irish actress and playwright. Born in Belfast in 1951, she began her career as an actress before writing plays, many of which have been staged in Ireland and on Broadway.
She is best known for playing Sarah Conlon in the 1993 film In the Name of the Father. Other screen roles include appearances in Closing the Ring (2007), Whole Lotta Sole (2011) and Philomena (2013). She has also acted in television series including How to Get to Heaven from Belfast (2026).
Jones helped found the Charabanc Theatre Company in 1983. Her plays include Stones in His Pockets (1996) and A Night in November (1994). She was awarded an OBE in 2002 and is married to actor Ian McElhinney.
