Biography
Mario Nascimbene was an Italian composer of film scores. Born in Milan on 28 November 1913, he studied composition and orchestral conducting at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory under Ildebrando Pizzetti. After writing chamber music and ballet pieces, he began scoring films in 1941 with L'amore canta.
Over six decades he composed music for more than 150 films. His credits include Room at the Top (1958), Sons and Lovers (1960), The Barefoot Contessa (1954), Alexander the Great (1956), The Vikings (1958) and One Million Years B.C. (1966). He became known for incorporating non-orchestral instruments and everyday sounds, such as typewriters, into his scores.
Nascimbene won three Nastro d'Argento awards for best score. He died in Rome on 6 January 2002.
