Biography
Marjorie Gross was a Canadian television writer, producer and comedian. She began her career in stand-up comedy in Toronto clubs before moving to New York, where she performed at venues including Catch a Rising Star and appeared on Late Night with David Letterman. She started writing for television in 1981 on the sitcom Square Pegs.
Gross wrote for series including Newhart, ALF, Get a Life and The Larry Sanders Show, on which she also served as supervising producer. She joined Seinfeld as a writer and producer in 1994, contributing four episodes: 'The Fusilli Jerry', 'The Understudy', 'The Shower Head' and 'The Secretary'. She received an Emmy nomination for her work on the series.
Gross died of ovarian cancer on 7 June 1996 in Los Angeles at the age of 40. The Seinfeld season eight premiere, 'The Foundation', was dedicated to her memory. Shortly before her death she wrote the article 'Cancer Becomes Me' for The New Yorker.
