Biography
Mark Burchard (1948–2024) was an American costume designer and wardrobe supervisor. He worked on more than seventy feature films and television series, including as costume designer on JFK (1991) and in supervisory or assistant roles on The Silence of the Lambs (1991), Dirty Dancing (1987), Carlito's Way (1993), Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) and Washington Square (1997).
Burchard trained at the Goodman Theater at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He began in costuming after auditioning for the New York City Opera, later serving as men’s costumer on the original Saturday Night Live and working on eight Broadway productions, operas and ballets. He received two Emmy citations for his contributions to children’s and classical programming.
Later in his career Burchard turned to writing fiction and poetry, and to photography, with work exhibited and published in several outlets. He was a member of Wardrobe Union Local 764 IATSE and Motion Picture Costumers Local IATSE 705.
