Biography

Merab Ninidze is a Georgian actor. Born on 3 November 1965 in Tbilisi, Georgian SSR, USSR, he grew up in an artistic family and trained at the Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Georgia State Film University from 1982 to 1985 under Gizo Jordania. He became a full member of the Rustaveli State Academic Theatre company.

Ninidze made his screen debut in Tengiz Abuladze's Repentance (1984). He is known for roles such as Walter Redlich in Nowhere in Africa (2001), Oleg Penkovsky in The Courier (2020) and Cardinal Giulio Sabbadin in Conclave (2024). He has also appeared in Bridge of Spies (2015), McMafia (2018), Homeland (2018), Treadstone (2019), Freud (2020) and Without Remorse (2021).

After leaving Georgia in the early 1990s, Ninidze has worked for more than twenty years in Georgian, Russian, German and English-language film and television.
