Biography
Michael Galasso was an American composer, violinist and music director. Born in Hammond, Louisiana, he studied at Oberlin College and Dartmouth College. He began his career composing for theatrical productions, notably several early works by Robert Wilson in the 1970s, and later collaborated with Wilson on further stage projects including adaptations of Ibsen, Strindberg and Chekhov.
Galasso wrote scores for films including Wong Kar-wai's Chungking Express (1994) and In the Mood for Love (2000), as well as Séraphine (2008), for which he received the César Award for Best Music Written for a Film in 2009. He also composed for dance and contributed to other international productions such as Secret Ballot (2001). He died in Paris in 2009.
