Biography
Miles Mander (14 May 1888 – 8 February 1946), born Lionel Henry Mander, was an English character actor, film director, producer, playwright and novelist. He was sometimes credited as Luther Miles or Miles Luther. Born in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, he trained at Harrow School and McGill University before entering the film industry.
Mander began his career in British cinema during the 1920s, directing and producing several films including The First Born (1928). He moved to Hollywood in 1936 and appeared in more than sixty feature films, frequently in supporting roles. His credits include Lockwood in Wuthering Heights (1939), Major Cunningham in To Be or Not to Be (1942), Sir Robert Bentley in The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945) and uncredited parts in Mrs. Miniver (1942) and Five Graves to Cairo (1943).
He died of a heart attack in Los Angeles.
