Biography
Millard Mitchell was a Cuban-born American character actor. Born in Havana on 14 August 1903, he appeared in bit parts in eight films between 1931 and 1936 before returning to screen work in 1942. He went on to appear in roughly thirty feature films and two television productions before his death in 1953.
Mitchell is known for his supporting roles in Winchester '73 (1950), Twelve O'Clock High (1949), A Foreign Affair (1948) and The Naked Spur (1953). He played the studio head R.F. Simpson in the musical Singin' in the Rain (1952). He received the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture for his performance in My Six Convicts (1952). Mitchell had a background in Broadway theatre, where he appeared frequently in the 1930s and 1940s.
