Biography
Mitchell Lewis was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 175 films between 1914 and 1956, working as a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer contract player across the silent and sound eras. His early supporting roles included Sheik Ilderim in Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ (1925) and Andy in The Docks of New York (1928).
In the sound era his parts included Ernest De Farge in A Tale of Two Cities (1935) and the uncredited Captain of the Winkie Guard in The Wizard of Oz (1939). Later credits were often small and uncredited, such as in Meet John Doe (1941) and The Fastest Gun Alive (1956). He also served as one of the original board members of the Motion Picture Relief Fund, now known as the Motion Picture & Television Fund. Lewis had earlier appeared on Broadway.
