Biography
Murdock MacQuarrie was an American actor and director. He worked on the stage for twenty-eight years before entering films around 1912 with Biograph. He later directed at Universal and appeared in hundreds of supporting roles after returning to acting in the early 1920s.
MacQuarrie is credited as J. Widdecombe Billows in Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times (1936). Among his other film appearances are Bride of Frankenstein (1935), Les Misérables (1935), The Prisoner of Shark Island (1936), At the Circus (1939), The Mummy's Hand (1940), Woman of the Year (1942) and Cat People (1942). He had several brothers who were also actors.
