Biography
Nancy Marchand was an American actress. Born Nancy Lou Marchand in Buffalo, New York, on 19 June 1928, she died on 18 June 2000.
She began her career in theatre in 1951, having studied at Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon University). Marchand appeared in numerous stage productions and originated roles in daytime soap operas including Love of Life and Another World.
She was best known for her television roles as Margaret Pynchon in Lou Grant (1977–1982), for which she won four Primetime Emmy Awards, and as Livia Soprano in The Sopranos (1999–2001), for which she received a Golden Globe Award. Her film credits include the Mayor in The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988) and Maude Larrabee in Sabrina (1995).
