Biography

Niamh Cusack is an Irish actress born on 20 October 1959 in Dalkey, County Dublin. She trained initially as a flautist, winning a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music in London and performing with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra and National Symphony Orchestra before turning to acting. She joined the Royal Shakespeare Company at the age of 23 and has performed extensively in stage productions with the RSC, the Royal National Theatre and other ensembles since the mid-1980s.

Cusack is known for her television role as Dr Kate Rowan in the series Heartbeat (1992–1995). Her film credits include Testament of Youth (2014), In the Land of Saints and Sinners (2023) and We Live in Time (2024), in which she played Sylvia. She has also appeared in Hereafter (2010) and Unwelcome (2023).

She is the daughter of actors Cyril Cusack and Maureen Cusack, and the sister of actors Sinéad Cusack and Sorcha Cusack. Cusack is married to actor Finbar Lynch; their son Calam Lynch is also an actor.
